12th Wing Honor Guard

The 12th Wing Honor Guard was established as a part of the Indiana Wing Drug Demand Reduction Program as an extracurricular CAP activity to give the opportunity for cadets and seniors to work together in a partnership of meaningful cooperation as ambassadors for Civil Air Patrol.

The members of the wing honor guard are expected to attend monthly practices, which are held at Grissom ARB, IN at every Indiana Wing Staff meeting weekend.  They are introduced to the concepts of the Air Force Honor Guard Training Program in the areas of Colors Element, Funeral Element, Ceremonial /Demonstration Element and the Services Element.  Each element has different responsibilities and competencies that are particular to that element. All member of the honor guard learn all elements to ensure a well-rounded ceremonial guardsman.  Unlike the military service honor guards, Civil Air Patrol Honor Guards do not participate in the firing party that renders the rifle volleys at a military funeral.

Before any cadet in the wing may wear the CAP Ceremonial Honor Guard Uniform, they must first show their mastery of skills in at least one element to the commandant of the wing honor guard. This can be done at any of the Wing Honor Guard Practices, and a CAPF 2A will be issued to authorize wear of the uniform.  This is to ensuing that the high standards of the honor guard are being upheld and, not just to wear a nice uniform.

The CAP Honor Guard Ceremonial Uniform will be the only authorized uniform for the members of Indiana Wing to use while performing as a honorguardsman.  Only those items that are listed in CAPM 39-1 Chapter 3 will be authorized for wear.  All other previous uniform items that were authorized are no longer authorized for wear.  Please see Indiana Wing Supplements for reference.
